From Two Girls to a Growing Community of Queens

On February 25th, 2025, Promoting Queens took a bold step forward—extending our mission beyond borders and launching the Promoting Queens Chess Club in Mombasa, Kenya.

Our very first class began with just two young girls. Their courage and commitment validated our vision and sparked a movement that has now grown into a vibrant community. Today, we are proud to say that:

48 girls are part of the club.
33 girls are actively training and competing.
One of our queens, Iwoku Vanessa, recently achieved her first FIDE rating of 1443, a remarkable milestone in such a short time.

This growth has been made even stronger with the help of our partners at ChessKid, who generously gave our girls free access to their world-class online training platform. With ChessKid, our queens now have the opportunity to sharpen their skills, connect with global chess resources, and learn in a safe, structured environment designed especially for young players.

Why We Need Your Support

At Promoting Queens, we believe every girl should feel confident in her brilliance. We call them queens because that’s what they are—brilliant, strong, and worthy of opportunity.

But here’s the challenge: while our girls now have free access to ChessKid world-class online training platform, most of them do not have the devices or internet access to use these tools consistently.

That’s why we’re raising funds—to ensure every queen has the resources she needs to train, compete, and grow.
